Microsoft Tablet OS will be shown Next Week

Microsoft Windows chief Steve Sinofsky will show Microsoft's upcoming tablet software at the AllThingsDigital D:9 conference next week, according to sources who spoke to Bloomberg (no link because its on the Bloomberg terminal).

We speculated that Sinofsky would show the tablet version of Windows 8 when his appearance was announced earlier this week, but Bloomberg has confirmed it with three separate sources, the report says.
The demo will show Windows 8 tablets running on hardware with an Nvidia Tegra chip. Microsoft OEM chief Steve Guggenheimer will also show similar demos at a show in Taiwan next week.
Microsoft has previously said that Windows is being ported to the ARM processors used in most smartphones and tablets and some screenshots of what look to be a new touch interface have leaked, but this will be the first official set of demos.
Earlier this week, Steve Ballmer said that Windows 8 would come out next year, but the company backtracked from that statement.

Philips's first Tablet PC exclusive exposure plan by June

It's rumored to be launching soon,
Supposedly hitting shelves in June.
Instead of picking Honeycomb,
Philips decided to go it on its own.
Underneath its skin you'll find Gingerbread,
We'd prefer an "entirely for tablet" OS instead.
There's a front facing camera for video chat
And a "drawing area" -- imagine that!
It's got a 7-inch screen and microSD,
As for price and processor it's wait and see.

Noble Nook WiFi, Kobo eReader , Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader (Chart)

The e-reader market just got a lot more crowded this week with the launch of the touch-enabled Nook and Kobo eReader Touch Edition. Will either device be able to take down the Amazon's industry defining Kindle? We've broken down the specs on the two new readers, the Kindle, and Sony's comparable Reader Pocket Edition (PRS-350SC) to find out which device will come out on top. There's a lot of overlap features between the different readers, like infrared touchscreens and Pearl E Ink displays. All of those important details and more in the chart after the break. Check it out, because you obviously like reading things.

HTC's 10-inch 'Puccini' Honeycomb tablet still rumored for summer release

What would a morning be without a little injection of rumorjuice courtesy of DigiTimes? Today's tattle has HTC's 10.1-inch LTE "Puccini" tablet hitting mass production in June with AU Optronics and Wintek pegged as the touch panel suppliers. Other specs, like the 1.5GHz MSM8660 processor and Android 3.0.1 build, seem to have been culled from that 911sniper leak which DigiTimes graciously cites as "sources in the supply chain." Of course, the June date has been tossed around before by DigiTimes but it's good to hear it again so close to the 10-incher's rumored summer release.

Samsung Germany now offering shiny new accessories for your Galaxy Tab 10.1, that you can’t buy yet

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been tantalizing us for some time now and still we must wait. We’ve seen it pop up in Russia and there’s word of its release in India. Pricing and spec sheets are floating around the internet and still we must wait!

The good news is that June should see the worldwide launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Samsung have kept schtum thus far on an official global release dates but in specific regions, days and months have already been hinted at and if it’s available in one region, it’s release elsewhere won’t be far off. Of course if you’re a Google or Android developer who was lucky enough to attend Google I/O this year, you already have a special white-backed, android-covered 10.1 sitting somewhere in your office and for that I admit I am jealous. With regards to the rest of us mortals however, we’re just going to have to wait and see when Sammy decide to pop the cork.
Speaking of release dates, in lieu of the 10.1′s eventual arrival, Samsung Germany have come across all eager. There are a host of accessories from about €30 to €150 available for purchase at this very moment, from the Samsung Germany website. The current list of 10 items include typical accessories such as a protective hard shell-case, a headset and various USB adapters (stated as unavailable until July). The cream of the crop though, has to be the case that comes complete with an integrated Bluetooth keyboard. As well as looking pretty good by itself, this special case would give the Galaxy Tab 10.1 a real competitive edge against a fellow tablet such as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. There are other items too, like a keyboard dock, but this simply says “available soon” so it’s anyone’s guess when that will become available.

What all this does mean, besides the fact that you can now start decking out your Galaxy Tab setup before you even own one, is that the actual device this is all for, might actually arrive in retail in the near, near future. Fingers crossed anyway.

HP plans to become better than number one in tablet space, invents a new number in process

We get it HP, you have an awesome new tablet at your hands and you think it is going to do really well. But there is no need to go ahead and invent new numbers to describe its future position in the market.
So stoked is HP’s Eric Cador about the upcoming HP TouchPad that in a recent press conference held in Cannes he went on to say:
“In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one. We call it number one plus.”

I’m sure Apple must be real worried right now. Not because of the TouchPad but because someone invented a new number before them. As for the other tablet manufacturers, we hope they don’t start coming up with their own new numbers.

Is the Toshiba “Thrive” Android Honeycomb tablet just around the corner?

We’ve spoken of Toshiba’s upcoming 10.1″ Android tab on numerous occasions before. It made an appearance at CES and we caught that back in January, specs popped up from BestBuy in early April and a scheduled release was slated for June in Japan.
Now, however it would seem that the Toshiba tab in question might be finally making its way across to the US and not only that, it gets a new name too.
The Japanese market will get their first taste of the Toshiba tab under the guise of the not-so-catchy Regza AT300, doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, right? Although there’s been no official announcement, it looks like elsewhere in the world we’ll be getting our hands on the Toshiba Thrive instead (better than previous possibilities such as the ANT300 and the Antares, thankfully). The source of a name change in the works comes from a 1, 2, punch of clues scattered across the net.
Firstly, Toshiba registered ‘Thrive’ under a trademark mid-April this year, followed by a placeholder page on Toshiba’s US site, currently populated with information based on their Satellite E305 Notebook. Alongside this, Twitter lit up with a number of tweets from a host of actors all talking about shooting a new Toshiba ad, one mentioning the Thrive by name and even suggesting the ad has something to do with zombies, weirdest thing!

The Thrive looks to be a pretty decent slate with a 1280×800, 10.1″ display, an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor, a front facing 2MP camera and a 5MP on the back, a host of ports, including HDMI out, and of course. Wi-Fi. Toshiba already have a feature site for what most certainly looks to be the Thrive (although they don’t mention it by name) which you can check it out here for more shots, features, specs and so on.
Predicted price looks to be in the vicinity of $730, if the Japanese Regza AT300 is anything to go by and the feature site still just says “coming soon”, but until the Thrive gets an official announcement, a true release date and price are still up in the air.

Samsung launches the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9 and Galaxy S II in Russia, surprises us with cool accessories

Samsung held a press event in Russia recently where they announced a trio of their latest and greatest mobile computing devices: the Galaxy Tab 10.1, 8.9 and the Galaxy S II. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is similar to the Special Edition we saw a few days back, the only difference being this one isn’t special and by special we mean it doesn’t have a gang of robots printed on its back.

The 8.9 is similar to the 10.1 but as you can guess it has a smaller 8.9-inch display. What captured our attention was a keyboard dock for the 8.9 that was showcased for the first time. It is slightly angled to enable comfortable typing and has a slot on the top for the device. And finally there was the Galaxy S II, which we all know and love along with an extended battery pack, which should snap on the back and give you a few extra hours worth of juice for you to ogle at that Super AMOLED Plus display even longer.

HP TouchPad to be priced $599 at Walmart, accessories to burn further holes in your wallet

HP’s upcoming WebOS tablet is still some way from gracing the shelves of your favorite electronics stores but we got a whiff of the kind of price it will be selling for. The guys over at PreCentral.net have uncovered the Walmart price of the TouchPad and it is going to be $599 for the 32GB Wi-Fi-only model, same as the similarly specced Apple iPad 2.

If you remember, HP also showcased three accessories for the TouchPad and we have the prices for them as well. The TouchStone, a wireless charging station, which uses inductive charging and also functions as a stand, will be priced at $79.88. The Bluetooth wireless keyboard will be priced at $69.88 and the official case from HP will be priced at $49.88. The accessories are bit on the expensive side and HP is no doubt hoping they can get away with it the way Apple does.

PreCentral.net reports Walmart could have the TouchPad in as early as the 1st of July if it reaches their distribution centers by next week.

Iconia Tab A500 and the Eee Pad Transformer will get Honeycomb 3.1 in June

The Acer Iconia Tab A500 and the Asus Transformer will be getting the latest Android Honeycomb version 3.1 in early June.

This was supposedly confirmed by both companies to This is my next dot com. Asus indeed has confirmed it on its Facebook page.
Honeycomb 3.1 adds performance improvement, stretchable widgets and USB Host support to both tablets. Although the Iconia Tab A500 is said to receive the USB Host treatment before the 3.1 update and the Transformer has it through its keyboard dock.
There isn’t a specified date yet but early June indicates the first two weeks. The updates will be over the air so there will be no need for connecting either device to your PC.

Leaked ROM from HTC Puccini 10-inch Android tablet details 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, LTE

The rumor of a 10” Android tablet has re-emerged, this time with more details and a couple of screenshots too. The tablet, named as the HTC Puccini, sports a WXGA (1280 x 800) screen and runs Honeycomb according to some specs from a leaked ROM.

Aside from the bigger screen, the Puccini tablet should also pack more processing power thanks to the confirmed dual-core Snapdragon inside. The MSM8660 chipset has two 1.2GHz cores and an Adreno 220 graphics chip.
The HTC Puccini should also one up the Flyer in terms of mobile broadband with LTE support (the product model is listed as “HTC PucciniLte”). The listed carrier is Cingular US, but I’m sure other carriers will have it too.
Check out this pair of screenshots – yep, Sense UI is here alright, which has led some to speculate that the Puccini runs Android Gingerbread instead of the tablet-oriented Honeycomb. Still, the ro.build.version.release value of 3.0.1 points to Honeycomb (sorry, no Ice cream sandwich yet).

Also, the $80 stylus for the Flyer should be supported by the HTC Puccini too.
